Health Canada Asks Weed Industry for Help with COVID-19 Testing
Canada's legal cannabis industry is stepping up to help fight the ongoing coronavirus pandemic by donating protective equipment and testing services to the medical community. Last week, Health Canada (HC) sent an email to licensed cannabis testing laboratories asking for assistance with COVID-19 testing. "Health Canada is working to identify lab capacity that might be available across the country in various sectors, including at licensed cannabis production sites, to assist with supporting COVID-19 testing," wrote Acting Director General Joanne Garrah, according to BNN Bloomberg . Canadian health officials are struggling to keep track of the spread of this virus, but gaps in testing are making it difficult to identify the total number of cases. Supply shortages and lack of properly-trained medical professionals are causing delays in the testing process, and many patients have been forced to wait weeks for their test results. These testing delays make it hard to keep an accurate count... (Alcohol, Canada, Cannabis, Facilities, Greenhouses, Production, Products, Testing)

DEA Takes Steps to Approve Cannabis Cultivation Applications, States Issue New Rules for Industry Amid COVID-19 Concerns: Week in Review
DEA Takes Steps to Approve Cannabis Cultivation Applications, States Issue New Rules for Industry Amid COVID-19 Concerns: Week in Review The COVID-19 pandemic is forcing governments worldwide to take drastic measures to “flatten the curve” and reduce economic fallout, and Canada is no exception. The Great White North closed its border with the U.S. for all non-essential travel (goods are not included in that shutdown), shuttered schools, colleges and universities across the country, and provinces are taking steps to stop all non-essential businesses. The Canadian cannabis industry, for the most part, can operate as normally as it can. Dispensaries are conducting business with social distancing measures in place, deliveries can be made—although Canada Post will no longer deliver cannabis packages to purchasers’ homes , opting instead for postal office pickup to minimize delivery person exposure—and cultivation sites continue to operate. The Cannabis Stock Rebound. Last Week Aurora Was Up 41%. Tilray 150%
Yes, huge gains, but remember Cannabis had had it’s Bear run before the rest of the market so this means big % rises on stock that had dropped about as far as it could go. Report: "Aurora Cannabis (ACB) Poised for Significant Boost following Canada’s Massive Stimulus Package Rollout; Along with other Cannabis Companies."
First part that interested me: “Oddly enough, the Coronavirus and the economic misery it is creating has given some companies a fighting chance who were struggling before the virus took hold of our economy. The significant debt and convertibles that ACB has against them, will be less of an issue due to Canada’s new massive stimulus package that will allow them to extend their debt obligations. Also, ACB is a prime candidate for a significant GOVT/Canada stimulas package that is aimed at businesses.” and, “The Canadian sector was flooded with cannabis supply and companies were struggling to generate profitable revenue growth. Aurora Cannabis alone had C$216 million in inventory on their books suggesting enough supply for the next year. Canadian cannabis stocks hide compensation consultant fees
Authored by: Teri Buhl Canadian cannabis company CEOs have been making big pay packages over the last few years coinciding with net losses. But, they have not been disclosing details required by Canadian law about who they employ to come up with the pay formulas and how much these consultants are paid. A review of Canadian public filings by Cannabis Law Report has found at least three publicly traded companies who have failed to be transparent in telling shareholders how much they were actually paying their executives. It appears that some packages could be described as “over-compensation” and were / are making some individuals very wealthy. Compensation consultants are often required by boards of publicly traded companies to enable an independent outside party to come up with a realistic approach to how the CEO and also key management are compensated thus stopping companies using internal resources to pull any old figure or package out of thin air. Cannabis operations that have grown... Are You Ready for a Cannabis Shortage?
The COVID-19 pandemic could lead to cannabis shortage just when we need it most. Covid 19 affects everyone, but especially the vulnerable, such as those with already compromised immune systems. Many medicinal cannabis patients find themselves in this group, something that serves to underline the importance of preparedness for any supply shortages. Here are some tips to ensure you are ready to weather a potential cannabis shortage. Do You Already Have Your Cannabis Gear? Although the coronavirus doesn’t directly impact the cannabis industry, it does affect the all-important supply chain underpinning the global market that cannabis has become. As more people isolate themselves from normal life, cannabis consumption will likely increase. But supply-chain issues in China, where much of the manufacturing takes place, may well prove to be the biggest threat to supplies. Much of this relates to vape-related hardware, ninety to ninety-five percent of which originate in China but can also mean... Former Aurora Cannabis CEO Terry Booth sells 12.2M shares in company
Aurora Cannabis Inc. says founder and former chief executive Terry Booth has sold nearly 12.2 million shares in the company into the open market. Reports Lakeland Today. The company says the sale is in connection with a restructuring of the company earlier this year that saw the elimination of 500 jobs and Booth’s retirement from the company. Aurora announced Booth’s departure from the company in February. As the succession plan, he became a senior strategic adviser to the board and remained a director. According to a regulatory filing ahead of the company’s annual meeting last year, Booth held 15.2 million shares, nearly 2.2 million options and 305,000 restricted share units at June 30, 2019. Are These Marijuana Stocks Going To Be De-Listed?
De-listing is a very real issue amongst marijuana stocks right now. Well, this was a much talked about topic a few months ago. With this comes volatility and that has made many large pot stocks show bottom-dollar prices. In the past six months, we have seen the top cannabis stocks in the industry lose much in value. Much of this is due to the market being incredibly young. Yet part of it can be blamed on issues plaguing the industry. Across North America, we have seen supply shortages and the increasing size of the black market take their toll on stock prices. But, with the effect of the coronavirus, many marijuana stocks are falling very close to the stock exchange minimums. [Read More] How This Leading Pot Stock is Responding to the Coronavirus What Issues Are Marijuana Stock Investors Facing? Canadians Complain That Legal Weed Still Isn’t as Good as Black Market Bud
Canadian cannabis firms are seeing a significant downturn in stock market value, but if you were looking to simply blame market forces for the industry’s cannabis business woes, you might be missing the forest for the trees. According to a new report from The Guardian , cannabis consumers in the Great White North say that inconsistent, mid-grade cannabis sold with little-to-no branding has soured legal buyers, often pushing them back to the country’s still-thriving black market. “The government’s pot is too expensive,” one Vancouver Reddit user wrote about the province’s legal weed . “The government doesn’t show you a picture of what you’re buying before you buy it, so you cannot be informed as a consumer. The government weed has been full of bugs, moldy, or too dry in some cases, and often takes too long to get there.” Of course, when Canadian pot users and Reddit posters talk about “government pot,” they are referring to legal weed produced by privately-owned or publicly-traded... Is the window for legitimacy in the cannabis sector now wide open? It’s All About Supply & Demand
With the world now coming to a screeching halt with the COVID-19 pandemic, the global cannabis market is perhaps more precariously positioned than ever before. As the S&P hits new lows and the Federal Reserve lowering interest rates, many companies, not just those in the cannabis industry, are feeling the pinch. With billions wiped off markets in a matter of moments, industry mainstay Tilray has been forced to raise $90M for “general corporate purposes” [1] to continue operations. Potential has always been a precursor to the way many investors have looked at the global cannabis industry. While it’s lightyears away from the historic highs that bathed investors in a “green glow,” the past year has been a different story altogether. Companies such as Aurora and Canopy have seen the departure of high level executives, M&A activities have slowed, and to make matters worse, cannabis rescheduling by the World Health Organization (WHO) has been delayed until December 2020 at the... 420 Is Now Canceled in Denver, Thanks to Coronavirus
Photo via The coronavirus just canceled 4/20 in the Mile High City. On Monday, organizers for Denver’s FlyHi 420 Festival announced that the epic April 20th celebration would be nixed on account of the novel coronavirus pandemic. As of this writing, Colorado has reported 186 confirmed cases of the virus and at least two deaths. No confirmed cases in the state have yet recovered from the illness. “The health and safety of our performers and attendees is the top priority. FlyHi will follow the City of Denver’s guidelines to reduce unnecessary public interaction,” the event’s website read. “There are no immediate plans to reschedule as this virus continues to circulate.” Had the event gone on as planned, rapper Lil Jon would’ve headlined while a massive crowd — composed of cannabis-loving folks from around the country and the world — blazed up, in public, at exactly 4:20pm. Last year, Denver’s 420 festival brought an estimated 75,000 people to Civic Center Park, located downtown between... Cannabis Companies Brace for Coronavirus Impact
Editor’s note: this story will be updated with developments. The cannabis industry, like other industries, has been upended as the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic worsens. Events have been cancelled. Consumers are stocking up on flower and products. And on Tuesday, one of the largest cannabis companies in the world, Canopy Growth, announced that it would temporarily close nearly two dozen corporate-owned retail shops in Canada. “We have a responsibility to our employees, their families, and our communities to do our part to ‘flatten the curve’ by limiting social interactions. For us, that means shifting our focus from retail to e-commerce,” Canopy Growth CEO David Klein said in a statement. This move puts a spotlight on an early question that cannabis business owners are wrestling with: to close or not to close? Considering that Canada allows for e-commerce, the impact of this “shift in focus” on companies like Canopy is smaller than it would be for a U.S. company. In the U.S., a... Australian Producer MGC Pharma Gains Access To Polish Pharmacies
Publicly listed Australian firm MGC Pharma has now entered Poland. The company just announced a commercial wholesale agreement with a local NGO called Cannabis House Association. CHA is also pairing with the Forensic Laboratory of the Faculty of Law and Administration at the University of Lodz. The plan is to support a large-scale research project in Poland. This is a first of its kind situation in Europe, even more interesting that it is happening here (as opposed to say Germany). The idea is to examine the societal, financial, medical and public health ramifications of the use of cannabis. There are approximately 15,000 pharmacies in Poland, most of which are authorized to dispense cannabis. Indeed, estimates of how many Polish patients there are ranges from between 300,000 – 600,000. Numbers could also be well higher. Poland does not represent the only European landing of late for MGC. Indeed, the company also began importing cannabis into Ireland – as of December, 2019. Cops Are Now Ignoring Low-Level Crimes During the Coronavirus Pandemic
Police in certain cities will not respond to calls for minor incidents during the coronavirus pandemic to minimize the cops’ contact with the public and prevent the spread of COVID-19 .
