How COVID-19 Is Impacting Public Cannabis Companies
Near-Term Operational ImpactLike all other businesses, the cannabis industry is having to quickly adjust. The good news is that no states, so far, have shut down cannabis operators, as they have been deemed as essential service providers, like drug stores. We recently interviewed Kim Rivers , CEO of Trulieve, the dominant medical cannabis company in Florida with 45 dispensaries. She detailed the steps that the company has taken to keep customers and employees safe, including scanning temperatures of employees when they arrive and immediately sending workers home if they aren’t feeling well. The company has also offered free delivery to patients who are 65 or older and is piloting a mobile drive-up program for all patients.A few public companies have commented on their operations, including Cresco Labs, which issued a press release describing its response, including heightened sanitation measures and an effort to drive traffic to online ordering. CV Sciences Reveals FY 2019 Earnings, Discusses Future Amid Coronavirus Outbreak
Marijuana companies have been grappling with falling stock prices as of late, and CV Sciences, a California-based cannabidiol (CBD) supplier and manufacturer, is no exception. While its stock was trading at about $5 per share this time last year, that has since toppled to a mere $0.34 per share as of March 19.It’s a trend that will likely continue as companies in every industry grapple with the fallout that will come from the outbreak of COVID-19 . But with the CBD market estimated to be valued at $23.7 billion by 2023, eyes are still on major industry players to see just how the market will shake out.Joseph Dowling, the CEO of CV Sciences, and Joerg Grasser, the company’s CFO, recently joined a conference call to discuss the company’s year, as well as the challenges they’ll be facing in 2020.CV Sciences had bright points in 2019. Mondaq Article: United States: Federal Court Presses ‘Pause’ Button On Budding CBD Litigation
United States: Federal Court Presses ‘Pause’ Button On Budding CBD Litigation 14 February 2020 by Stephanie A. Sheridan , Cynthia Taub , Daniel C. Rubenstein and Chelsea Gold Steptoe & Johnson LLP A Florida district court has stayed a CBD case based on the primary jurisdiction doctrine, providing retailers and manufacturers with a potential new strategy for delaying litigation until the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) completes its highly anticipated rulemaking on how to regulate such products. The class-action lawsuit—Snyder v. Green Roads of Florida LLC, case no. 0:19-cv-62342-UU (S.D. Fla., Jan. 3, 2020)—was brought by two plaintiffs who purchased products that contain hemp-derived cannabidiol (CBD), including edibles (gummies, syrups, tea, and coffee); supplements (capsules); and cosmetics (topicals), from defendant Green Roads, the products’ manufacturer and retailer. Plaintiffs’ claims were based on the failure of the products’ labels to disclose the correct amount of... 2020 Top 11 Most Effective Cannabis PR Firms
The cannabis industry is one of the most unique and restricted industries in general, but when it comes to advertising, marketing and public relations, it stands alone in its capabilities and the landscape in which to operate. The keys to any good marketing or PR campaign in cannabis, since advertising is still almost completely illegal to even engage, are creativity, understanding the laws, and relationships. If you have never worked in PR for the cannabis industry, and made the transition into it, you would know there is a learning curve that requires time. No matter how big, long standing or respected a firm may be, it will take 6-12 months to figure out how to navigate the cannabis terrain. Unfortunately, many brands and companies will go and hire the most expensive PR firm in the world, only to find out 3-6 months in, that they would have received 20 times more coverage if they would have gone with a firm that has a sole, or major, focus on cannabis for no less than a year... What Value Do These Marijuana Stocks Offer The Industry
Projections of the worldwide spending on legal cannabis are set to hit highs of $57 billion in sales by 2027. With this in mind, the opportunity to capitalize on marijuana stocks is still a great possibility. Even though we have seen some major changes impact the market, there are still more obstacles to get past. However, if the market can overcome these hurdles it can have a positive outcome for pot stock investors. One of those fences to climb happens to be the legalization of marijuana in the U.S. on the federal level. Some analysts have stated that in 2020, we could see cannabis become legal across the country. Marijuana Stocks See Uptrend Through Beginning of 2019
Since the beginning of the new year, marijuana stocks and the general market have remained in an uptrend. Looking at last year, this seems like quite the saving grace as many believed the market would continue its steep downtrend. While this most recent bullish reversal is good news, we are in no way out of the water. However, it seems as though cannabis is moving towards its billion-dollar future goals quite quickly. Several stocks have shown potential to continue to move toward the top of the market. These companies are mainly the big guys in the industry, but some small and mid-cap stocks have also shown a large amount of potential. Many of these businesses are those that touch the physical cannabis plant and are known as pure-play cannabis stocks. These companies have shown that they are leading the industry toward a brighter future for all. Next Green Wave ( NXGWF ) ( NGW ) is a vertically integrated producer of cannabis-based out of California. The company has seen their stock... Combating HFT,s and Market Manipulation
Sign the petition, fellow weedstockers this has impacted you in some form. APHA, N, CRON, CVSI shareholders its time to speak up. https://www.change.org/p/iiroc-combating-hft-s-and-market-manipulation Canadian retail investors are being defrauded. It is time the Investment Industry Regulatory Organization of Canada (IIROC) listened to us, and started protecting investors from illegal practices. As a large group of retail investors, we urgently call on the government to implement and to enforce the rules and regulations that will ensure fair trading practices on Canadian exchanges. The first area that should be addressed is High Frequency Trading. HFT algorithms are at a distinct advantage and any rules under which they operate need to be scrutinized and addressed. If no rules exist, it’s time to acknowledge the present issues and implement new standards under which Canadian exchanges operate. The harm they are inflicting on both individuals and companies who rely on investment capital... (Canada, Investment, Investors, Management, Media, Regulations, Social Media, Tracking, Security)

FDA holds an advisory position therefore FD&CA is law of the land regarding hemp CBD products (CVSI)
The FDA holds an advisory non binding position that any CBD above the natural levels found in hemp before 1994 is a drug ingredient and not a food ingredient. Because this is just an advisory non binding position the FDA cannot be sued regarding their incorrect position until they make a final rule. FDA is holding a public meeting regarding this in 2019. Being compliant with the FD&CA for a new dietary ingredient require either: 1. Filing a NDI with the FDA (these currently will be denied because of the non binding advisory position of the FDA) 2. FDA determines CBD to be a GRAS ingredient. 3. New dietary ingredient goes through the self-GRAS regulatory process. Although it is not necessary to have the FDA review it is generally a good idea to have the FDA issue a no questions letter in response to the self-GRAS determination. (CVSI did this but has not submitted to the FDA) So is CVSI lawful? Technically yes but not permanently because the FDA could issue a final rule which then... Experts weigh in on financial impact of hemp-friendly Farm Bill
Several experts predict passage of the Farm Bill will unleash a wave of institutional investments in the hemp and CBD industries. Patrick Rea is co-founder and CEO of CanopyBoulder , a seed-stage business accelerator and venture fund for ancillary cannabis start-ups. He suggested the 2018 Farm Bill has the potential to be a “game-changing event for the hemp and the CBD space,” spurring an influx of investment like what occurred following the passage of the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act of 1994 (DSHEA). “What would be the result” from passage of the Farm Bill? Rea asked in an interview conducted in late October. “Institutional capital that has stayed away from hemp, CBD and cannabis would be unleashed.” The unleashing of institutional capital could be right around the corner. Congress on Monday released an 807-page document on the 2018 Farm Bill, including language that would exclude hemp from the definition of a controlled substance and grant state agriculture... Buying the dip - thoughts on some of the best deals out there?
Hi all, Looking to get some input on some different companies as I'd like to take advantage of this dip and take 1-2 more positions. I'm not investing a ton into the space given the volatility, but would like to put a little more in for the longer term with the hopes that there is a solid return down the road. My thought is to diversify a bit between some CAN and some US companies. My current positions are Canntrust (I will probably add to this position to average down with this dip) and a little bit of CGC. I had some IIPR that I let go of recently but could be open to buying more of that if they dip down in the mid 40s again. Just looking for thoughts on some of the names I'm eyeing. Any input is much appreciated! Thanks in advance! Acreage - I like that Boehner and other former pols are part of the leadership - seems like they have the right kind of influence/connections to establish themselves in the US market CWEB/CVSI - kind of torn on which of these two I'd prefer, but...
