Emerald Harvest Opens Doors, Makes Sanitizer to Fight Pandemic
(ACB, Aurora Cannabis Inc., Canada, Cannabis, CGC, Development, Facilities, Jordan, Monitoring, Production, Stocks, Vertically Integrated, Dispensaries, Cultivation) Emerald Harvest Opens Doors, Makes Sanitizer to Fight Pandemic The COVID-19 pandemic is forcing governments worldwide to take drastic measures to “flatten the curve” and reduce economic fallout, and Canada is no exception. The Great White North closed its border with the U.S. for all non-essential travel (goods are not included in that shutdown), shuttered schools, colleges and universities across the country, and provinces are taking steps to stop all non-essential businesses. The Canadian cannabis industry, for the most part, can operate as normally as it can. Dispensaries are conducting business with social distancing measures in place, deliveries can be made—although Canada Post will no longer deliver cannabis packages to purchasers’ homes , opting instead for postal office pickup to minimize delivery person exposure—and cultivation sites continue to operate. Both the Quebec and Ontario governments have deemed cannabis cultivation and retail businesses “essential” to the...

Dispensaries saw the biggest sales day of the year after Denver’s initial stay-at-home order looked to close them
(Cannabis, Colorado, Products, Recreational, United States, Dispensaries) 3/25/20–When Denver Mayor Michael Hancock announced recreational marijuana shops would be forced to close under the city’s stay-at-home order Monday, the response from customers was swift. They swarmed local dispensaries to stock up on products and caused enough of a stir that the mayor rescinded the moratorium just three hours later. Colorado Gov. Jared Polis deemed marijuana dispensaries “critical” retail businesses, meaning they’re allowed to remain open during the coronavirus pandemic with some restrictions, and on Monday, Denver dispensaries saw their biggest sales day of the year so far. Activists Protest Massachusetts' Decision to Close Adult-Use Cannabis Stores
(Alcohol, Cannabis, Growing, Massachusetts, Medical Marijuana, Netherlands, Recreational, United States, Dispensaries) The US is deep in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic , and a growing number of states have issued “shelter-in-place” orders, requiring all non-essential businesses to close. Most states have designated both adult-use and medical marijuana as essential services during the quarantine, but Massachusetts has taken a different stance on the matter. On Monday, Governor Charlie Baker announced that all non-essential businesses in the state would be forced to close until April 7 in order to minimize the spread of the virus. Baker declared that medical marijuana dispensaries and liquor stores are considered essential services, and will therefore remain open, but recreational weed businesses are considered non-essential. “The main reason is because Massachusetts is one of the big states with [a large] geographic area that has recreational marijuana, and there's a ton of traffic coming from that is coming from other states," said the governor, according to the Boston Business Journal . Most Americans Want Medical Cannabis Dispensaries to Stay Open During Lockdown
(Alcohol, Arizona, California, Cannabis, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Hawaii, Illinois, Legalization, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Medical Marijuana, Mexico, Michigan, Nebraska, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, United States, Washington, Dispensaries) Most Americans believe that states should not restrict access to legal medical cannabis during “shelter-in-place” measures, according to a new poll . The poll , conducted by YouGov earlier this week, asked nearly 5,400 Americans whether medical marijuana dispensaries should be considered “essential services” or not. Slightly over half (53 percent) of all respondents agreed that access to medical marijuana was essential, and only 26 percent said that dispensaries should not be considered essential. A further 21 percent were undecided on the matter. As is often the case with cannabis-related polls , younger and more liberal respondents were more likely to be in favor of keeping dispensaries open. Between 54 and 59 percent of respondents between the ages of 18 and 54 agreed that medical marijuana is an essential service, but only 47 percent of those over 55 felt the same way. Democrats were also more likely (62 percent) to agree than independents (52 percent) or Republicans (43 percent...

First Legal Marijuana Home Deliveries Begin In Colorado
(Arizona, Cannabis, Colorado, Growing, Law, Legalization, Medical Marijuana, Products, Recreational, United States, Dispensaries, Recreational Cannabis) For the first time, people in Colorado will be able to legally have marijuana products delivered directly to their homes starting on Friday. The launch of the limited program focused on medical cannabis patients comes one week after the dispensary chain Native Roots announced that its Boulder location The Dandelion had received the state’s first marijuana delivery license . And while the license wasn’t related to the coronavirus outbreak, the timing is opportune, as officials have increasingly cautioned against leaving home to avoid catching or spreading the virus. The delivery service will be limited to patients living in either Boulder or Superior. They must also be registered with the dispensary, and those who are not already signed up must do so in-person for the time being—though Native Roots said it is “looking into a compliant, remote solution for patient registration.” Native Roots said there is a $100 minimum purchase, and they’re encouraging patients to pay with a debit card...

Harvest Health Buys Franklin Labs, Lays Off Have A Heart Employees
(Acquisition, Growing, Harvest Health & Recreation, HRVSF, Investment, Manufacturing, Pennsylvania, Processing, United States, Dispensaries, Cultivation) One day after announcing it had terminated its deal to acquire Verano Holdings, Harvest Health & Recreation Inc. (CSE: HARV, OTCQX: HRVSF) has now said it is going to buy Franklin Labs, LLC , a subsidiary of CannaPharmacy, for approximately $25.5 million payable with $15.5 million in cash and a $10 million promissory note. Harvest Health stock fell over 16% to 94 cents yesterday on the news that the deal with Verano had been terminated. This was despite the broader markets trading much higher as shareholders were clearly not happy about the ending of the deal. Eight Capital looks to have cut its target price on the stock from C$14 to C$3. The Canadian stock was lately trading at C$1.32. The Franklin Labs acquisition includes a 46,800 sq. ft. cultivation and manufacturing/processing facility in Reading, Pennsylvania. Federal Agency Touts Hemp Progress While Refusing To Serve Marijuana Businesses
(Biodiesel, Cannabis, CBD, Clothing, Events, Growers, Hemp, Hemp, Inc., Legalization, Loans, Manufacturing, Medical Marijuana, OTC:HEMP, Pennsylvania, Products, Testing, United States, Virginia, THC, Dispensaries, Cultivation) The federal Small Business Administration (SBA) is celebrating the potential of hemp and is urging federal regulators to address concerns from farmers before rules for the crop are finalized. At the same time, however, it is maintaining that it cannot service marijuana businesses due to ongoing federal prohibition. In a blog post published on Tuesday, SBA’s Office of Advocacy described the wide range of uses for hemp, including rope and CBD oil, and detailed the crop’s evolution from a federally controlled substance to an agricultural commodity that was legalized through the 2018 Farm Bill. “From rope to clothing, biodiesel to hempcrete, plant-based ingestible protein to CBD balm, the uses of hemp are far-reaching.” The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) now has jurisdiction over the plant, and it released an interim final rule last year outlining guidelines for a domestic hemp program . In the time since the crop’s legalization, SBA says it has “embarked on an ambitious and...

Green Market Report’s Marijuana Money March 27, 2020
(Canada, Cannabis, CBD, Connecticut, Food, GGBXF, Green Growth, HRVSF, Massachusetts, Medical Marijuana, OGRMF, OrganiGram Inc, Recreational, United States, Dispensaries) The COVID19 pandemic continues to rage on. Unfortunately for Massachusetts recreational dispensaries, what had been the silver lining in the clouds, meaning increased sales, has been taken away. The state decided to stop all adult use cannabis sales and now only medical marijuana sales can take place. Despite the virus crisis, companies are still making key decisions. The Harvest Health and Verano deal is over. The deal which was once valued at $850 million when Harvest stock was trading at roughly $8 has been terminated. Harvest stock is now trading just over a dollar. Charlotte’s Web announced an agreement to acquire Abacus and the combined entity is anticipated to represent nearly 35% of U.S. CBD sales withing the Food/Drug/Mass Retail channel. The deal is valued at $99 million. Curaleaf Holdings, Inc. said it will acquire three Arrow Alternative Care (AAC) dispensaries in the state of Connecticut. Dispensaries to Stay Open as Denver Undergoes ‘Stay at Home’ Order
(Arizona, California, Cannabis, Illinois, New York, Recreational, United States, Dispensaries) By Associated Press (AP) — Denver has issued a “stay at home” order limiting most people to going out only for essentials such as groceries, medication and exercise as officials try to slow the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19). Under the order from Mayor Michael Hancock, businesses that are not considered “essential” must be closed until at least April 10. The closures initially included liquor stores and recreational marijuana shops, but Hancock later amended the order to allow those businesses to remain open as long “extreme physical distancing” is in place. Residents flocked to liquor stores and marijuana dispensaries and queued in long lines shortly after Hancock issued the initial order. States such as California, Illinois and New York have implemented “stay at home” orders to curb the coronavirus pandemic. These states have also deemed marijuana dispensaries as essential, thus allowing them to remain open along with other essential businesses such as pharmacies, banks, and...

Earlier reports have suggested that Canadian cannabis retailers are reporting an unprecedented surge in demand for cannabis as consumers stock up on product just in case the country is shutdown. This comes as retailers have modified their business models to allow for online ordering and delivery services. Earlier this month, Canopy Growth Corporation (WEED.TO) (CGC) announced plans to shut down its retail store in an effort to combat the spread of the coronavirus and we are favorable on the measures that the Canadian cannabis producer put in-place. We’ll continue to update as regulators announce new policies. So far, during the COVID-19 pandemic, cannabis sales are through the roof as consumers stock up in anticipation of supply chain disruption. But, despite this upswing, cannabis companies are bracing for impact. As Cannabis Wire reported this week, a dilemma has hit the nascent industry: to close or not to close? Already, Canopy Growth chose to close nearly two dozen shops in Canada, and we’re tracking how other companies are reacting. But what happens in the case of forced closures? Cannabis regulators will have to weigh tough decisions in the coming days as businesses, from gyms to bowling alleys to bars, are asked to close as part of broader efforts to contain the spread of the virus. Youth Marijuana Treatment Admissions Fell After Legalization, Study Finds
(Alcohol, Cannabis, Colorado, Facilities, Law, Legalization, Medical Marijuana, Recreational, Research, United States, Washington, Dispensaries) Does legalizing marijuana for adults lead to a tidal wave of teens going to treatment? Not according to a new study out of Temple University, where researchers in fact found decreases in youth admission rates for problem cannabis use in two legal states. The findings, published this month in the journal Drug and Alcohol Dependence, run counter to speculation from legalization opponents, law enforcement and some public health experts, who have warned that relaxing cannabis laws could lead to an explosion in cannabis use disorders among children. If that’s happening, the study found, treatment admissions data so far show no sign of it. Examining data from publicly funded substance use treatment facilities, researchers from Temple’s geography and urban studies department, found that youth treatment admissions rates for cannabis use disorder fell sharply between 2008 and 2017, nationally as well as in Colorado and Washington State, which both passed legalization laws in 2012. “Our results...

(Acquisition, Arizona, California, Cannabis, Development, Florida, Harvest Health & Recreation, HRVSF, Iowa, Maryland, Pennsylvania, United States, Vertically Integrated, Washington, Dispensaries, Cultivation) Harvest Health & Recreation Inc. (CSE: HARV, OTCQX:HRVSF) and Verano Holdings, LLC have announced the mutual termination of the Business Combination Agreement dated April 22, 2019. The stock was lately trading at C$1.62 or $1.13. “Given the persistent challenges in consummating this deal and current market conditions both companies felt it was prudent to move forward separately at this time,” said Steve White, Harvest CEO. “We have tremendous respect for the entire team and operations at Verano Holdings . We wish them well and look forward to possibly working together in the future.” The companies stated that prolonged obstacles in meeting requirements for state and local regulatory authorities needed to transfer ownership and operational licenses, adverse capital market conditions, a challenging environment for asset...
