Ghana Officially Legalizes Hemp for Medicinal and Industrial Use
(Cannabis, CBD, Cleaning, Clothing, Ghana, Growing, Hemp, Law, Legalization, Lesotho, Malawi, Medical Marijuana, Packaging, Portugal, Production, Products, Recreational, South Africa, Zambia, Zimbabwe, THC, Recreational Cannabis, Soil, Cultivation) Ghana just legalized the medical and industrial use of hemp , joining the small but growing wave of cannabis reform in Africa. Last Friday, Ghana's Parliament passed the Narcotics Control Commission Bill, granting the country's Narcotics Control Board (NACOB) extended powers to regulate the industrial use of certain prohibited substances. During the Parliamentary debate, lawmakers also added a clause to the bill that legalizes the production of hemp for medical and industrial use. Like the US , Ghana imposes a limit of 0.3 percent THC on all legal cannabis plants. Ghanaian businesses have traditionally used hemp to create jute sacks for packaging cocoa and other produce. But because the country's previous drug laws prohibited the domestic production of hemp, businesses had to import hemp from other countries. Now, local farmers will be able to produce this crop on their own soil and sell it to local businesses. Hemp also has thousands of other industrial uses, and has traditionally...

3 Myth-Busting Facts About Marijuana
(Canada, Cannabis, Cigarettes, Growing, Hemp, Jamaica, Legalization, Netherlands, Portugal, Recreational, Research, Strains, United States) Pot, weed, ganja, hashish, hemp, marijuana. They’re all words that are tied to what’s actually quite a pretty herbaceous flowering plant. Nevertheless, it’s a plant that also generates considerable discussion and debate, particularly insofar as to how it is cultivated and used around the world. The question of how this often misunderstood and misrepresented plant should be used and perceived by the populace will garner a wide variety of opinions. With that in mind, let’s take a look at some myth-busting facts about marijuana that are certainly interesting to discover, no matter where on the debate one stands. 1 – Is Marijuana Legal in the Netherlands & Portugal? There’s a common misconception among visitors that marijuana has been legalized in European countries such as the Netherlands and Portugal, which isn’t exactly true. However, these two countries do have markedly different outlooks regarding the humble cannabis plant, compared to others around the world. Important to know...

Baltimore To End Most Drug Prosecutions Amid Coronavirus Outbreak
(California, Cannabis, Distribution, Legalization, Maryland, New York, Portugal, United States, Washington, Dispensaries) The top prosecutor in Baltimore is moving to dismiss pending charges against people accused of most drug crimes to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. In a letter to staff on Wednesday, State’s Attorney Marilyn Mosby listed a series of offenses that should not result in incarceration. Drug possession, attempted drug distribution, prostitution, traffic offenses and public urination are among the offenses that shouldn’t land people being bars at this point, according to Mosby’s guidance. Putting these individuals in jail could exacerbate the public health crisis by exposing inmates to the virus, she said. “This policy is in place for now as an attempt to save lives,” Mosby told Marijuana Moment in response to a query about whether people should be prosecuted for drug offenses in general, outside of the current public health crisis. “We will assess the policy at a later date and time when this global pandemic is over.” For the time being, pending drug possession charges should be...

How Coronavirus is Affecting the International Cannabis Industry
(AbbVie Inc., Canada, Cannabis, China, Events, Germany, Greece, Illinois, Investors, Italy, Malta, Portugal, Production, Recreational, Spain, Switzerland, United States, Dispensaries, Funding) Frankfurt: Germany right now is not the worst place to be as a global pandemic closes borders and leads predictably to mass change overnight, which is unparalleled during peacetime. But it is still eerie. Berlin and Cologne are starting to close public spaces (like restaurants, bars and clubs). The grocery stores and pharmacies are still stocked and open however- it is a national priority. On Germany’s borders, Europe is closing in a way it has not since WWII. The EU is considering banning all non EU “foreigners” from entering the region for nonessential reasons for the next 30 days – albeit in an environment where leaders are also concerned about making sure supplies get through to those who need them. It also feels like wartime – only this time the “enemy” is a virus. It is called COVID-19, and it is spreading. It cannot be “stopped” although authorities are now doing everything they can to slow it down. At risk are not only populations but also vulnerable health care systems. The...

What are the International Rights for Cannabis Patients?
(California, Canada, Cannabis, CBD, Italy, Law, Legalization, Medical Marijuana, Nebraska, Netherlands, Portugal, Production, Products, Recreational, South Dakota, Spain, Thailand, United States, Uruguay, THC, Cultivation) You can’t travel with your cannabis, but here’s what you can expect when you get there. As legalization spreads, so too does the realization that the medicinal properties of cannabis are hard to ignore. For any medicinal cannabis patients looking for a cannabis-friendly travel destination, (or new home) here are eight countries with the best rights for cannabis patients. Rights for Cannabis Patients in Spain The liberal attitudes towards cannabis in Spain go way back. As the closest entry point to Europe from the African continent, much of the world-renowned Moroccan hashish made its way through Spain into mainland Europe. Cannabis is currently decriminalized for cultivation and personal use across the country, but specific laws in relation to consumption vary by autonomous community. Cannabis is currently legal both, recreationally and medically, in Catalonia, but as of yet, other autonomous communities have not followed suit. In the meantime, cannabis consumption clubs and user...

(Canada, Cannabis, China, Full Circle Capital Corporation, Germany, Greece, GW Pharmaceuticals plc, Hemp, Japan, Law, Legalization, Luxembourg, Madagascar, Management, Medical Marijuana, NASDAQ:FULL, Portugal, Regulations, Research, Science, United States, THC, Pharmaceuticals) The ancient history of cannabis is an unfinished rollercoaster journey to legalization. The ancient history of cannabis is a story of co-evolution. Brought up alongside mankind, it’s been with us for every step of our progress, from humanity’s first steps as hunter-gatherers to part-time plant cultivators all the way to the digital era. As humans made technological leaps, cannabis was there, too. Moving forward with dog-like companionship , slowly revealing its secrets along the way. Its rollercoaster journey from a wild weed of Asia to the one of the world’s longest used and most diverse medicinal substances is an interesting one. Cannabis helped usher in mankind’s first forays into natural medicine. It was one of the first plant-based cures abandoned and vilified in the pharmaceutical age. From savior to scourge and back again, cannabis exemplifies the sometimes-fraught relationship between humanity and nature. Humble Beginnings: The Ancient History of Cannabis Indigenous to the...

The Impact of Brexit on the Global Cannabis Industry
(Australia, Branding, Canada, Cannabis, CBD, Colorado, Development, Food, Germany, Greece, GW Pharmaceuticals plc, GWPH, Hemp, Poland, Portugal, Products, Regulations, South Africa, Spain, Switzerland, United States, THC, Pharmaceuticals) HMS Great Britain has now set forth from its European home port for another intriguing and very British escapade on the high seas. So far the jury is out. It could be the beginning of the next British Golden Age, Spanish Armada and all that. Or could it could end up (more likely) somewhere up the Khyber Pass (a sordid misadventure of British Imperialism that did not go well in the 19th century with global implications still reverberating to this day). For Netflix fans of The Crown, think “Suez Crisis” as a more recent and apt analogy. Starting with as much as a 6.7% reduction in domestic GDP already on the horizon. Snarky historical analogies and nostalgia aside, how will Brexit influence and shape a global cannabis industry, starting at home? The UK Is Not Actually in Regulatory Free Fall The first thing to realize is that most of the puffery around Brexit was that with the exception of labor conditions, there is little free choice in the world of trade anymore. Is Europe the Next Big Market for Pot Stocks?
(Acquisition, Canada, Cannabis, Growing, Investing, Investments, Investors, Portugal, Recreational, SMG, Stocks, Uruguay) Investing in pot stocks has changed dramatically in the few years that the industry has been around. This is a mixture of legislative changes and the shift in how the public views marijuana as a substance. Right now, the U.S. and Canada are the main focal points of the cannabis industry . This is because of the laws that exist that have helped to push the cannabis industry forward. In Canada, marijuana has been fully legal for around two years. The Canadian cannabis industry has its fair share of challenges, but the expectations for the future remain high. In the U.S., statewide cannabis markets are all functioning independently of one another. This is because there are no laws from the federal government that allow cannabis to be sold or produced. Medical cannabis is cannabis grown for medical purposes, whereas EU-approved medicinal products encompass certain medicines derived from cannabis and containing an amount of the active ingredients of cannabis, such as tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and cannabidiol (CBD). The EU has approved some medicinal products derived from cannabis but has not yet approved medical cannabis itself as a medicinal product. Israel Imports Cannabis: What Happened to Exports?
(Canada, Cannabis, Colorado, Development, Germany, Greece, Illinois, Israel, Italy, Medical Marijuana, Partnerships, Portugal, Production, Recreational, Research, Spain, United States, Washington, Cultivation) Canndoc, an Israeli medical cannabis producer, just received a shipment of 250kg of dried whole flower cannabis. The company, a subsidiary of InterCure, just signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Canada’s Tilray. Interestingly the agreement is both for the import and export of flower. So don’t count out a stream coming the other way. Or, more likely, the export of seed and cannatech related to the same. Everything goes both ways – yin and yang. Even in this industry. However what this also does is set up Tilray to have an excellent shot at being partnered at least with the first Israeli exporters when local demand is satisfied. And that, given their strategic footprint globally, but particularly in Europe, is a very unique advantage in a cannabis map that is shifting, literally, as the year becomes the new decade. What Gives With The Ex-Im Discussion Anyway? Israeli producers have longed for the day when they can bring their considerable tech and research advantage if not...

Italy Sets New Pace For Recreational Cannabis & Domestic Cultivation
(ACB, Canada, Cannabis, CBD, Denmark, Development, Germany, Greece, Israel, Italy, Law, Legalization, Luxembourg, Medical Marijuana, Mexico, Portugal, Recreational, Spain, Switzerland, Thailand, THC, Recreational Cannabis, Cultivation) The Italian Supreme Court seemed to take a page from both Israel and Thailand last year (who announced exports and reform legislation on Christmas Day 2018). In the dying days of 2019, on December 19 , the court ruled in what is basically a landmark decision for not only the country but the continent, that small-scale domestic cultivation of cannabis (both of the CBD and THC kind) is legal. Even more intriguingly, the ruling was ignored for several days in Italy before being picked up by news agencies. This in turn has apparently set off a much wider and predictable debate about the use of the plant in the country – either for medical and or recreational purposes. Many are doubtful that any legislation will pass formalizing the inevitable in the near future (one attempt has already been killed), but one can never know these days. This is an issue that perennially takes countries and politicians by surprise as populations warm quickly to the concept of medical reform. That said, so far...

Presidential Candidate Lincoln Chafee Backs Decriminalizing Drugs
(Cannabis, Indiana, Iowa, Law, Legalization, Portugal, Research, Rhode Island, Science, United States, Uruguay, Washington) Libertarian presidential candidate Lincoln Chafee said on Wednesday that the U.S. should move toward decriminalizing drugs and partner with countries that have implemented such policies to learn from their models. Chafee, who previously served as a senator and as Rhode Island’s governor, made the comments at a press conference to announce his candidacy, where he emphasized the need for the U.S. to end its involvement in military conflicts abroad and also end “the failed war on drugs.” The truth is that there is another war that needs to end. The failed war on drugs. What we need is an active, open minded discussion in this country that results in real criminal justice reform, and that includes decriminalization. #LeadWithTruth . #Libertarian #ProudlyLP — Lincoln Chafee (@LincolnChafee) January 8, 2020 “Internationally, our policies of eradication, substitution and interdiction are an abject failure and have caused vastly more harm than good,” he said. “At home our prisons are full of...

Cannabis investment vehicle Greencare joins NEX
(Acquisition, Cannabis, Cannabis and Hemp, Deals, Distribution, France, Germany, Growers, Hemp, Investment, Investments, Italy, Loans, Netherlands, Portugal, Production, Products, Recreational, Regulations, Research, Recreational Cannabis, Pharmaceuticals, Cultivation) By Andrew Hore – 30/12/2019 Greencare Capital (LON: GRE) has joined the NEX Growth Market as part of its strategy to become a consolidator in the European market for cannabis-based products. Greencare has already identified its first investment and it could be secured in the near future. Greencare is capitalised at £3m at the subscription price of 25p a share. It could not have joined AIM as an investment vehicle because it did not raise enough cash, but NEX is a good market for Greencare because it already has cannabis-related investment companies and businesses. NEX can be a stepping-stone onto another European market. The board includes Guy Winterflood, who is chairman of Hempflax, which is one of the largest growers of hemp for industrial use. Cannabis in Europe European countries are at differing stages when it comes to legalisation of the use of cannabis. Italy legalised medicinal cannabis in 2013 and Germany did the same in 2017. Press Release & Media Report Says The Hemp Association of Ghana (HAG) Signs Export Deal To Portugal
(Cannabis, Ghana, Greenhouses, Growing, Hemp, Media, Portugal, Strains, United States, Industrial Hemp, THC) Ghanaweb reports…… The Hemp Association of Ghana (HAG) has signed a deal with a Ghanaian-owned Cannabis business operator based in Portugal. The deal will gross a staggering $ 56 million in five years from merely cultivating and exporting industrial hemp from a land size approximating 100 acres. The deal will rake in around $2.8 million per harvest of HAG’s industrial hemp on the planned 100 acres. According to the partners, Industrial hemp has a 16-week maturity period, hence it can be planted and harvested around three or even four times a year in the sunny and tropical weather of Ghana. Each year’s harvest will generate $ 11.2 million for HAG. And by the five-year lifespan of the deal, HAG would have accrued over $ 56 million in revenue. Taxes to the Ghanaian government could gross over $ 10 million from just 100 acres of industrial hemp if the authorities evaluate the industrial potential of the plant taking the world by storm currently. Soringa TM, the Ghanaian-owned company is a...

The European Cannabis Industry In Review: 2019
(ACB, Austria, Cannabis, CBD, Denmark, Development, France, Germany, Greece, GW Pharmaceuticals plc, GWPH, Israel, Italy, Luxembourg, Manufacturer, Medical Marijuana, Oils, Poland, Portugal, Products, Recreational, Spain, Sweden, Thailand, THC, Pharmaceuticals, Cultivation) 2019 opened with a strange vibe in the air on the cannabis front. Israel and Thailand set the stage with dramatic reform announcements last Christmas. And as the calendar counts down to 2020, the larger players all seem to be licking their wounds (if not stock prices). But cannabis reform is not just about profits on the public markets. What has gone down and where and ultimately, has the year lived up to its promise? Reform Marched On In Several Countries At this point, reform is certainly “too big to fail.” There will be no going back anywhere no matter the laggards still in the room. Photo: Ian McWilliams, Flickr From the perspective of opening patient access (and markets beyond that), There were several big stories on the medical front this year – and – in a real first for the EU – of not only the medical, but recreational kind as well. Germany of course is going, relatively speaking, like “gangbusters” on the medical front although supply, quality and supply chain issues are...
